Purpose of the website

The information provided throughout e-couch is intended for information purposes only. This site is not designed to treat depression or anxiety or other mental health disorders. The diagnosis and treatment of clinical anxiety and depression requires a medical practitioner or qualified mental health professional. People seeking a diagnosis or treatment of depression, anxiety or other mental disorders should consult a medical practitioner or mental health professional. None of the information on this web site is a substitute for a diagnosis and treatment by an appropriate health professional.

It is not known if e-couch is an effective program for preventing mental health problems or improving mental health and the Australian National University (ANU) and its staff make no claims as to the effectiveness of e-couch.

The screening tests on this website are intended solely for the purpose of identifying anxiety and depressive symptoms, and are not designed to provide a diagnosis.

Persons under age 16 with depressive symptoms are advised to talk with their parents or other responsible adults about getting help for depression from a qualified person.

The personality, stress and attitude scales used on the site are also intended solely to provide information. Individuals who feel stressed, anxious, are taking too much alcohol or other substances or are depressed are advised to talk to a health professional.

To the full extent permitted by law, ANU, and its staff, agents, contractors and students shall have no liability for claims by, or loss, injury, cost, expense or damages of any kind whatsoever to, a user of this website or any other person however arising in connection with the website or any decision or action taken in reliance on the information contained on this website.
